Becoming a cataract surgeon and retina specialist

During my career, I worked hard to achieve my targets. I finished my medical university with honour degree in 1993 in Kiev – Ukraine.

I started working in the UK in 2005. Over 8 years of training at different NHS Hospitals, I gained large experience in cataract surgery and trained many trainees to do it even during my training. In addition, I focused on retinal disorders. During my training, disorders of the retina became a huge specialty due to the advances in OCT (optical coherence tomography) technology. This showed the tiniest details of the retina up to 5 microns resolution hence, our knowledge expanded dramatically. I read many lectures about OCT and trained many trainees and optometrists on interpretation of OCT.

I became on the GMC specialist register in February 2014. GMC registration number 6065813

As a consultant eye surgeon working in private hospitals like Spire Hospital Elland and on the NHS, I gained large experience in performing complex cataract cases referred by colleagues. Despite the above, I kept my complication rate very low. I implanted many special premium intraocular lenses (IOL) like toric IOLs…

In the UK, I worked at University Hospitals Aintree NHS Foundation Trust (Liverpool), Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust where I became an experienced cataract surgeon and started specialising in retinal disorders and since September 2013 at Calderdale and Huddersfield hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
